How to maintain your convectors
If cooperators follow the procedures recommended below, the
number of malfunctioning convector units can be greatly
reduced.
Cleaning
Procedure:
 |
Make
sure all switches are turned off before cleaning the convector. |
 |
Remove
cover by lifting it up and swinging the bottom out. |
 |
Do
not remove styrofoam trays unless replacing the old one with a new one. |
 |
Make
sure the drain from the drip pan and drip tray is not clogged. Test by pouring one quart of hot water into the long tray. If the
water does not go down the drain, or the drain becomes
clogged, immediately contact the appropriate
Cooperator Services Offices listed below. |
 |
Fan
coils (that row of thin metal sheets inside the convector) should not be cleaned or vacuumed during air cooling season. Never use a
sharp object, such as a knife of screwdriver, to clean the fan coil. |
 |
Filters
can be cleaned at anytime. During the winter, filters may be vacuumed
and washed; during the summer, they should not be washed. |
 |
To
replace the cover, place it flat against the convector, lift it up one (1) inch, and let it drop into position. |
 |
If
there is a leak, a pot or towel should be placed under the convector until
the unit is serviced. |
 |
Cooperators
who are unable to check their convectors because of age or a physical
condition can call their CSO and a RiverBay staff member will be sent
to check for clogged or malfunctioning drains and convectors. |
